Who Can Participate?
Faculty and Staff
Participation in the GIS site license is available either for individuals
at KU (e.g, individual faculty or researcher staff) or for KU administrative
units (e.g., departments or research programs). Although the site
license generally restricts the installation and use of software to
university-owned computers, it does permit faculty to install the
software on their home computer for curriculum development and other
non-commercial use.
Students
As noted above, the site license restricts use of ESRI software
to university-owned computers. Students interested in obtaining
a copy for use on their personal computer can purchase a version
of ArcView directly from ESRI at a discount. The current
cost for a one-year ArcView 9.x license is $100, and the cost
for a one-year ArcView 3.x license is $250. Contact ESRI Telebusiness
at 1-800-447-9778 for details.
Students can also purchase the
Getting To Know ArcGIS Desktop workbook. The workbook includes
a 180-day time-out copy of ArcView 9.x and its extensions. The
book costs $60.
