PROJECT SUMMARY
The goals of this project are to: 1) examine the effects of year-to-year
climatic variation on spectral reflectance patterns of land cover types and
land use practices in eastern Kansas, 2) examine in greater detail the effects
of management practices on the biophysical and spectral features of grasslands
in eastern Kansas; and 3) determine the most suitable combination of season(s),
spectral band(s), years, and sensor(s) for discriminating among management
practices (i.e., hayed, grazed, and Conservation Reserve Program) on cool
and warm season grasslands. The methods used in this research can be summarized
as: 1) selection and measurement of field data; 2) selection and processing
of spectral data; 3) statistical analysis to determinate relationships between
the spectral and field data; and 4) analysis of the effects from other factors
such as precipitation, soil, temperature, etc.
