KARS provides access to Kansas historical aerial photography through its in-house archive of black and white USDA photographs and color slides, as well as ordering assistance for nationwide NAAP and NHAP photography. KARS' collection contains hundreds of black and white 9" x 9" aerial photographs (1:40,000) and color slides.

KARS operates a digital multispectral aerial imaging system based out of the Lawrence, KS airport. The camera (a DuncanTech MS3100) acquires data from the blue, red and near infra-red portion of the spectrum. The resolution and imaging area vary depending on the altitude, however a typical flight at 10,000 feet above the ground results in a 0.8 meter pixel resolution and an image that is 1100 meters by 830 meters. Users can either request a custom flight over a given target area or utilize the archive of imagery previously acquired.

KARS has completed three statewide map projects for the State of Kansas. Each of these unique maps is available to the general public. Statewide management and planning, K-12 classroom use, and beautiful wall art are just a few of the uses for these maps.
