Welcome to the Kansas Biological Survey metadata catalog
The Kansas Biological Survey (KBS) is a non-regulatory agency of the state of Kansas, and a non-degree granting research
and service unit of the University of Kansas (KU). KBS is a nationally recognized leader in several fields of environmental
research and has maintained a strong tradition of natural history studies.
Directions For Searching The Data
The metadata catalog can be searched using keywords or geographic location using the 'What' and 'Where' options in the
upper left. We also provide a 'Categories' search, which can be useful if you want to search by type of data or the research
unit that produced it.
Directions For Downloading Data
KBS data listed in the catalog is available for download in multiple formats. In order to download data, click the 'Metadata'
button associated with data record. Within the metadata is a 'Distribution Information' field that contains links to the data in
a number of potential formats (including shapefile, KML, Web Mapping Service (WMS), ArcGIS Server Service, ESRI grid,
ERDAS Imagine, and geotiff). The metadata will also contain links to other relevant websites and project personnel.
