Downloadable Landsat 7 Thematic Mapper data

The Kansas Applied Remote Sensing (KARS) Program at the University of Kansas is making available to interested researchers copies of Landsat 7 Thematic Mapper data of the Yellowstone area. At present, we have some of the 1999 data online; we will be adding the remainder of the 1999 data and the 2000 data as time permits.

Bands included in the downloads:
Landsat bands 4,3, and 2 are the near-infrared, red, and green reflected light, respectively. Assigning bands 4,3,2 to color channels red, green, and blue produces a "false color composite" very similar to color-infrared aerial photography, where vegetation is shown in shades of red.
Landsat bands 3, 2, and 1 are the red, green, and blue reflected light, respectively. Assigning bands 3,2,1 to color channels red, green, and blue produces a "natural color composite" very similar to what you might see if you were flying over an area in an airplane.

Format:
All files in GeoTIFF format, rectified to UTM projection, NAD27 datum. Files have been compressed using WinZip compression utility.

File size:
WARNING: Many of the files are quite large, and consequently we are offering only some of the subsets for download here. We recommend downloading these only if you have a high-speed Internet connection (not a modem). If you are interested in obtaining a full scene on CD-ROM, please email Dr. Mark Jakubauskas at the University of Kansas to discuss your needs.
