Global Visualization Viewer (GLOVIS)

Description: GLOVIS is an easy to use online search, view, and order tool for ASTER, EO-1, MODIS, Landsat MSS, TM, and ETM+ satellite imagery. The user can select various map layers to overlay on the imagery including political boundaries, roads, water features, and cities.
Formats: Digital satellite imagery.
Coverage: Global.
Data Access: Mixture of free distribution and commercial pricing.

Earth Explorer
Description: An online, interactive source of information on land remote sensing and other Earth surface data. Access to the National Satellite Land Remote Sensing Data archive, including all of the Landsat missions, NOAA AVHRR, and incoming data from MODIS and ASTER as part of NASA's ongoing Terra mission.
Formats: Digital satellite imagery.
Coverage: Global.
Data Access: Mixture of free distribution and commercial pricing.

National Satellite Land Remote Sensing Data Archive
(EROS Data Center)
Description: Access to Landsat MSS and TM, and declassified intelligence satellite photographs data through redirection to Earth Explorer (see below). Plans to include AVHRR, ASTER, and MODIS data. PDF and ARC shapefiles document cloud cover and geographic cover for the Archive.
Formats: Digital satellite imagery and datasets, photographic prints.
Coverage: Global.

Geospatial Data Clearinghouse
Description: The USGS node of the National Geospatial Data Clearinghouse provides a pathway to find information about geospatial or spatially referenced data available from USGS, including: biological resources, water resources, geologic information, remotely sensed data, and National Mapping Program information.
Formats: The information is in the form of metadata. Metadata, or "data about the data", describe the content, quality, condition, and other characteristics of data. Data available include DEMs, DLGs, raster data…
Access: Search for USGS (and other organizations) geospatial data holdings by keyword or area of interest.

Map Layers Warehouse, National Atlas of the United States
Description: Access to easy-to-use, digital map-like views of America's natural and socio-cultural landscapes, particularly the environmental, resource, demographic, economic, social, political, and historical dimensions of American life. The Atlas is a 1997 update of a large bound collection of paper maps that was published in 1970.
Formats: Map layers are available in Shapefile (.shp) format and in the Topological Vector Profile (.tvp) of the Spatial Data Transfer Standard. Image files are available in the tagged image file format (TIFF). Data tables are distributed in the DBF format.
Data Access: All map layers can be downloaded at no cost using file transfer protocol, but some are available for a small fee (less than $10) on CD-ROM.
