Custom Aerial Imagery |

|
Description: KARS operates
a digital
multispectral aerial imaging system based out of the Lawrence,KS
airport. The camera (a DuncanTech MS3100) acquires data from the
blue, red and near infra-red portion of the spectrum. The resolution
and imaging area vary depending on the altitude, however a typical
flight at 10,000 feet above the ground results in a 0.8 meter
pixel resolution and an image that is 1100 meters by 830 meters.
Users can either request a custom flight over a given target area
or utilize the archive of imagery previously acquired.
Coverage: The archive of imagery
begins in the spring of 2000, and covers the spring, summer, and
fall months of subsequent years. The majority of the archived
imagery is over northeastern Kansas (Douglas, Jefferson, and Leavenworth
counties) though imagery also exists in Lyon County, Coffey County,
and over portions of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming. Imagery
comes with a GPS log of image center points that can be used to
assist with geo-registering the imagery. Access:
Public access to the archive is welcome, but appointments are
requested. Fees: Basic
access to the archive is free. Assistance and copy services are
available at $25 per hour. Custom flights can be requested for
$200 per mission plus $200.00 per hour. Imagery is acquired at
a rate of approximately 30 square miles per hour depending on
flight line configuration. Contact:
